Today we see many things that would have been an outrage or downright strange in the past. Some examples are interracial unions, in-vitro fertilization, same-sex marriage, women’s rights, widespread irregiliosity, the lack of privacy, the amount of obese people and the civil rights. And although we may see these things as normal, we can evidently see how the problems we face today could make our world appear as a dystopia in other’s eyes.
We are a dystopia. Not only are our governments corrupt, but we face many problems such as the ones listed above that we have not been able to solve.
Many of the negative things on that list such as the lack of privacy, factories, obesity levels etc; we are beggining to view as normal, and there lies our problem. We are being brainwashed by our society and ourselves into believing that the world we live in is ideal. And truly some of things that we see as normal, such as phones, obese people, shouldn’t be. People simply shoudln’t be fat. There shoudln’t be the current problem about anorexia because people simply should not be fat. Period. The human body is not naturally fat, it becomes that way because of the things we put into our body, which are made from chemicals that are unhealthy for us, and that WE make and WE eat. WE have caused the current eating disorder problems, because if it hadn’t because of all the wrong things that we ingest into our body, there wouldn’t be obese or people who are fat, and there wouldn’t be girls striving to be thin because they wouldn’t have the problem of being fat in the first place. The current campaigns about about loving yourself, loving your body adn all of that are all propaganda to make us believe that it’s normal to be fat, and it’s not. Also, the fact that seeing a kid with a phone or just a person with a phone is the “norm” in the developing world is kind of sad. We have become so dependent on technology and depend on it to do things that used to come naturally. For example, to write an essay at school, instead of choosing to wrtie with a pencil and paper, a student will probably choose to type up their essay, and yes, I do undertstand that typing the essya is faster than writing it by hand, however what I find imppressive is that something that we humans can do naturally has been overpowered by something such as typing that requires a machine to be achieved. Another example is the definition of talking. About 100 years ago, talking would have meant meeting up and talking, however, the definition of talking now is to call each other on the telephone. And even though the telephone is a big helper in many things, it also keeps us from enjoying one of the things that are so beautiful about humanity, directly interacting with people.
