Doing fun and creative activities in class is a really good idea, since it motivate students to work together and to enjoy learning. Yesterday, on Halloween, we had a pumpkin carving contest at school. We were given the pumpkin and the materials and were told to carve it as we chose. The contest was per classroom, so each classroom got their own pumpkin to decorate. I have to be honest, when we were given our pumpkin, none of us had the slightest idea of how to carve a pumpkin. We didn`t even have an idea of how to make it. Every single suggestion someone made seemed to be too hard or already been done by one of the other classrooms.
After a long time of arguing on what to do we finally decide to make or pumpkin with a simple face and a big mouth that would have the pulp form inside the pumpkin been thrown up like puke. I know it sounds kind of gross, but it turned out pretty well. Unfortunately, when we had already cut through the whole pumpkin, we found out that two other classrooms were already doing the barf idea. We were really disappointed, but we decided to make ours unique and different from the other two pumpkins. And well, let`s just say that when a group of kids work together they can make some pretty amazing stuff...
We made a platform out of cardboard for our pumpkin and covered the box with black colored paper. Then, we made a R.I.P sign behind the pumpkin and added spiderwebs made out of paper, we put some spiders around the thing and added a zombie hand creeping out of the ground. Below you can see a picture of how our pumpkin turned out...
